Transforming agriculture with sustainable irrigation solutions

Interesting data

Irrigated agriculture has become a strategic axis. Its invaluable work as a guarantor of food for the population, and its role in combating the depopulation of rural areas, give it a leading role that must be taken into account.

However, the progressive reduction in rainfall due to climate change, the necessary renewal of infrastructure, and the volume of water destined for both agricultural and industrial use, make it necessary to adopt measures for greater sustainability.

Nearly 70% of available water is consumed in agricultural and industrial applications, with approximately 29,000 Hm3/year used to meet demands, of which 70% is allocated to irrigating crops. This contrasts with the 99,000 Hm3/year average contribution, coming from rivers, reservoirs and aquifers.

The implementation of intelligent irrigation solutions, sensors, monitoring and control systems, and data analysis algorithms is necessary to optimize water use in agriculture. However, the combination of advanced technology and sustainable agricultural practices is revealed as an ally with the capacity to significantly improve productivity, reduce water and energy consumption, and minimize negative environmental impacts.

To maintain high productivity and remain competitive in the market, farmers must focus on optimizing energy consumption and efficient use of water resources.

Innovative solutions in agriculture

And to face this challenge, the digital transformation of agriculture is required, aimed at providing optimized solutions for the use of energy and water, and which is based on the implementation of more efficient irrigation systems, as well as the use of digital conservation and optimization of water.
